The Painted Turtle Camp for Children with Chronic Illness

• The Painted Turtle seeks 4 experienced pediatric registered nurses for full-time summer employment from late May-August 2009, who seek to make a difference in the lives of children with chronic and life-threatening illness. Summer staff nurses will work under the direction of The Painted Turtle Nursing Director and Medical Director. Nurses will be responsible for administering care related to the various medical condition groups served, including: liver transplant, arthritis and other rheumatologic conditions, kidney disease and transplant, hemophilia, thalassemia, skeletal dysplasia, type 1 diabetes, and inflammatory bowel disease. Other responsibilities include: preparation and administration of routine scheduled medications and treatments to campers and staff, providing various levels of first aid, sharing in rotating acute care clinic coverage with physician support, assisting with clinic inventory and ordering procedures, assisting with data entry of camper health information, being involved in educating staff, serving as a resource for volunteer medical staff, and serving as a role model in regards to children's growth and development issues, health care, hygiene and ADL needs surrounding acute and chronic illness.
• Qualified candidates will have a minimum of 1-2 years pediatric nursing experience, State of California Registered Nursing License, and current CPR/first aid certification. PALS certification preferred. Flexibility, teamwork, good communication, strong organizational skills and excellent people skills are essential.

• Work with groups to facilitate a safe and successful experience during the adventure based portions of 10 to 26 day courses; set rock climb sites and act as site manager; conduct high ropes course activities; support whitewater rafting, caving, and mountain biking days; facilitate use of ocean water craft such as motor boats or jet skis (FL only); transport crew in program vehicles; provide relief to instructors; and work with youth in-between courses. For CA only - manage logistics for groups during and between courses including managing, repairing, and transporting group gear and purchasing of food during course.

Catalina Island Camps

• Activity Specialists teach in one of the following activity areas: sailing, skin diving, kayaking, power boat activities, challenge course, arts & crafts, target sports, photo journalism, or nature.
• Activity Specialists must have previous teaching experience or significant personal accomplishment in the program area they are applying to teach. All staff must be First Aid & CPR certified. All waterfront staff must be lifeguard certified.
