Shenandoah Summer Adventure Camp

• BACKGROUND INFORMATION: We are looking for staff who are good with kids. We want people who want to make a difference. Our "Mountain Campus" was purchased, developed and is managed by the Sheridan School, an independent day school in Washington, DC. Our campus is located in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Our naturally wooded setting provides an ideal environment for challenging activities. Our 130 acre campus spans meadows, mountain ravines, streams, ponds, woods, and remote wilderness. -- Our High Adventure Activities include: Rock Climbing, Caving, Backpacking, Day&Multi-day Canoeing, and White Water Rafting. Challenge Course Elements include: High/Low Ropes courses, Giant Swing, Zipline & Postman's Walk, 40ft Climbing & RappellingTower, Leap of Faith, Flying Squirrel, and Group Teambuilding Course. Other Curriculum Components include: Multiple Difficulties of Orienteering, Survival Skills, Animal, Geology & Water Studies, Track id and whatever specialities you bring with you!
• SEASONS: Our camp is in operation March through November. You have the option of working a single season, back-to-back seasons or the whole lot! The Spring Season begins with staff training March 15th. Our Summer Season begins with WRF Training June 20th (Free for our employees!) The camp comes to a close with our Fall Season begining around August 24th. Besides being a quality role model with good judgement, you and your co-instructors will be responsible for almost every aspect of your in camp and out of camp experience. You will be helping the campers plan the trips, food, and teaching them how to pack gear and equipment. You will see that each trip form its own community/identity.
• SALARY & BENEFITS: Summer Instructor Staff - $1500/mo + room & board. Interns may be paid between $200-$250 d.o.e. (interns may take our WRF course for free). Full Time Instructors (8mo contract) $1400/mo + medical, dental, room + board OR $1600/mo + room & board. * Staff do not stay in tents with campers. Hidden Creek Farm

• Hidden Creek Farm, a unique summer experience, seeks enthusiastic people from the ages of 17-25, to help out with our residential summer camp. The premise of our program is that campers come and live on a working horse farm, they stay in our home, and they ride and learn about horses. Our counselors must be comfortable around horses, able to saddle and groom horses, willing to learn, and confident supervising students around horses. They are NOT required to ride, though there is ample opportunity for those who enjoy the sport. Our camp is VERY small, 6-10 campers at a time, so counselor: camper ratio is VERY low.
• We are a horse camp with no other activities. We are looking to split campers into different groups to allow for individual growth, so a counselor might take beginners who are tired of riding, into the barn to learn about horse care, grooming, etc. Or, at a horse show, the counselor might supervise campers who are NOT showing while another counselor might be helping campers who ARE showing get ready for their class.
